In Shades of Crimson

May 15, 2008
By Sarah Hagy, Medford, OR

Red.
Seething monster,
pounding on the door,
crouching on the unwelcome mat,
clawing at the floor.

Wire snaps,
the Devil snickers.
Sanity breaks,
your control withers.

Hot.
Blinding.
Blood flowing,
blood boiling,
blood rising,
in your face,
ears,
heart.

Beating an untimely tune.
Scorching open wounds.

Pound.
Beat.
Smash.
Boundaries begin to clash.

The monster,
coursing through burning veins.

Electric flash,
warning crash.
Then the crying shame.
