dreams in ocean bottles
we’re walking through these guarded doors
and you whisper to my hair
“they’re watching for our futures -
assuring we go nowhere “
but now they’re holding guns
and we’re starring back with loaded eyes
stealing surreptitious looks
well, this will come as no surprise
we slipped into an alleyway
marked by a sign of no return
breaking away from planned events
and promises of concern
we’ll drink away our futures
on distant beaches with only words
falling asleep together
lulled by the ocean birds
we’ll build a castle of sand and shells
and throw bottled messages to davy jones
where we’ll lecture our philosophies
though we’ve got nothing left to own
we’d steal away in our forever land
waiting for a sunrise on the water
with the impending global warming
our island’s getting hotter
but with reality on the other line
a startling wake up from this dream
slipping on our office suits
things are never as they seem
we’re trapped in cubicle prison cells
under the Man’s relentless stare
they mouth it to us caustically
“you’re not going anywhere.”
