Beyond Hope

Step by step,
Thats what they had told me,
One by one,
Thats what they had repeated.

Those perfunctory words,
They stuck for a second,
Then glided away with the invisible air,
Spreading wings then flying away,
Never to be thought of again.

Not a chance you'll recover,
Only a miracle,
No hope,
Those are ones that lingered in my head,
My future seemed lost,
Now covered by a gray cloud,
One that wouldnt recead.

I tried to hold my hope close,
So for one day,
That dreadful life changing day,
Would come they would stay.
But now my life only seems to flash before my eyes.

Memories of love, sorrow, and joy,
People who I would leave behind,
The warm ocean air and the cool water,
One that would soothe your feet after the burning sand,
All of that would be gone.

Step by step,
Thats what they had told me,
One by one,
Thats what they had repeated
