The fight is won or lost far away from witnesses - behind the lines, in the gym, and out there on the road, long before I dance under those lights.

My Secret Room
I run my fingers across the first page,
breathing in the familiar scent with a deep sigh.
I have no idea what these words hold.
Only that I will be ever so slightly changed by them,
forever affected.

The second I open the book I am enveloped in to a new world.
I feel new emotions.
See new things.
I am protected in this world.
Away from my own troubles and worries.
My books are my secret room.
I can hide there.
Safe- for now.

The first page entices me.
It’s soft paper, neat letters, and organized paragraphs.
My heart beats a little faster.
My anticipation rising like waves.

I read my book,
feel my sweet release in knowing it’s secrets.
The secrets it had been hiding.
And yet…I always find it hard to say goodbye.

This is a poem I did about my love for reading. No matter what is going on in my life there is always a place that I can escape to.
