Walking In A Winter Wonderland

Bare trees
have lost their leaves
and look frigid with shades of gray.
Days are short
and closets contort
to fit the down coats and beret.
Gingerbread houses
and peppermint canes,
holiday blouses
and many weight gains.

Saint Nicholas
And Christmas Day
New Years Eve
and reenactment plays.
‘tis the season
for cookies and egg nog,
and driving to Grandma’s through the thick fog.

A small girl saunters
down the long hall
with mistletoe, tinsel, and a peppermint ball.
She twirls and she sways in her holiday gown,
of velvet and lace, wearing all but a frown.

She thinks to herself, “I’d like some chex mix.”
She races to the kitchen for her snack-craving fix.
Grandma had made this snack from scratch,
and Molly had helped her, and after played catch.

This holiday joy
is present throughout
the party the family
has always loved about
the Christmas season and holiday cheer
the children wait up to hear reindeer.

This holiday buzz is winter-wonderful,
friends and family are all smiles and cheerful
with mistletoe hung and silver bells rung
it’s once again here,
“the most wonderful time of the year!”
