That day
Waterfalls ran down my cheeks
That one call I got in sobs and sniffles
I remember

That day
She started those drugs, chemo
Days we couldn’t call
Long afternoon naps
We remember

That day
Hair fell to the floor
That day
New hair was placed on her head
That box, that paper, that wig
They remember

That day
She remembers
She’s finished
Her new hair is as curly as can be
All chemo
All radiation has cured her
She is done
She is cancer free
All remember
She is the survivor
I remember

The author's comments:
I wrote this piece because my grandma was diagnosed with stage 3 breast cancer back in 2009. So i wrote about her because she survived this terrible journey.
