Deserted

Standing on a thin wire.
On one side, the deepest darkest pit of despair.
Full of anguish and doubt and undiluted anxiety.
On the other side, a sense of peace and tranquility floats through a glorious paradise.
Each side trying to inveigle.
The wire quivers, tipping toward the abyss, where no light ever shines, where no happiness or goodness ever seeps into the shadowy hell.

Trying to regain a sense of equilibrium; the efforts are futile.
Falling... falling...
The wire stops moving, balance returns.
Paradise leans forward, calling.
So tempting.
One step toward the mirthful, illuminating place, but the wire quivers once more.
Falling again, reaching, the paradise fades, the sense of relief, joy and ecstasy all fading with it.

Panic sets in, there is no escape, no way out of this horrid, wretched place.
No hope.
No life.
Just alone.
All alone.
Deserted.
