i knew that this would happen,
that you'd leave me all alone,
but i can't blame you for looking,
hoping that i'd make it home.
but there is no silver lining,
and there is no snowing day
when families are all at the tree
just smiling away.
so i did decide to do something
about how i am alone.
i'll drive far from this coastal line
and won't pick up the phone.
and i will not think of her today
or tomorrow or the next
about how how she swept me off my feet,
and then she broke my neck...
or was it slightly lower,
was it a burning in my chest?
the flames that burn whole cities down
and cause me such unrest.
they spread into my blood and veins;
i feel them in my eyes,
they burn up all my limbs and tips
and tear me up inside.
i'll fondly miss your pounding waves
off beaten, battered shores,
pressed up against the sandy night,
i fade into the roar.
