Earrings

I really wanted to pierce my ear.
Finally, my second hole.
Complaining? You would not hear.

I kept an eye on the calendar, waiting for the day to come near.
To look and feel older was my goal.
I really wanted to pierce my ear.

I promised I wouldn’t shed a tear.
Adrenaline pumping, I was on a roll.
Complaining? You would not hear.

Nothing else would bring me cheer.
This new addition would soothe my soul.
I really wanted to pierce my ear.

This was the one thing I wanted, it was clear.
I’d feel complete, I’d feel whole.
Complaining? You would not hear.

Maybe I can do this again next year.
Hopefully my mother won’t lose control.
I really wanted to pierce my ear.
Complaining? You would not hear.
