The story of peace does not flow like a river
The story is harsh enough to make one quiver
Rather, the story is rough and jagged
This story I will now deliver
Harmony and peace once ruled the land
Until malevolent cretins became one band
Upheavals occurred, separate alliances formed
Bloody tracks were left in the sand
One man's sedition unrolled his tongue
A new world war had begun
A soldier strutted arrogantly
Carrying his bayonet and gun
Boom! A single shot filled the night
Another one down, they found it all right
He mattered not in the pursuit of liberty
He was gone like a bird in flight
The war raged as a singeing fire
Until one man had to aspire
Of his dream of never ending peace
He spoke out to all nations, never known as a liar
He reached out a hand, just a touch
Light gleamed from his hand, enveloping the world so much
The violence ceased, and a gentle dove lamented woefully
Over the soldiers in their bedraggled uniforms, peace becoming like a crutch
The rival nations, filled with renewal, made a compromise
To never let anyone cause so much despise
Vile venom and hatred vanquished soundly in their midst
All war forgotten, peace on the rise
That is the story of endless love
For as long as God reigns above
Peace will certainly never cease
And still singing, that sweet lowly dove.

This was written for a prompt from my seventh grade English teacher. She wanted us to write a poem about any aspect of peace.
