The Defeated Bird

The bird is defeated
poor gentle bird
that has been beaten down
with hawks' and eagles'
words
sometimes
they whack her around
with their wings
They've put her
in a dark space
she cries
and cries
and cries
for someone to help her out
but no one will
she has to get out
on her own
she will
and then
to the top of the sky
