I sit watching the buildings flash by,

Houses and apartments and stores,

my mind only half awake

in the light of the early morning sun

that flashes on and off

from behind buildings

Like a never ending beacon.

We go by the beach,

The sun reflects off the smooth flatness of the sea

and blinds me with its brightness.

We drive along the narrow, twisty road through

the forest.

Slivers of sunlight sneak through the spaces

between leaves,

Drawing lines of light on the road;

We cross the train tracks,

Infinite lines stretching in both directions

The sun glints off them,

lacing the train's path with fire.

We arrive at the school to start our day,

As the sun rises in the sky,

touching every part of our existence.
