Dashing through the streets
Bullets fly as if they were meteorites
Leaving behind tails of blistering heat
Leaving barely an impression of light

Perched on an adobe house
Overlooking a desert, brown and arid
The wave of camouflage, intending to arouse
Invades to destroy the horrid

Admiring the beautiful blue sky up above
Shaming the ground below
Covered in blood
Achieved through a simple blow

Life for death
Death for life
A simple knife
Takes the last breath

Wondering if the sacrifice was in vain
Tormented by the excruciating pain
Ready to pass from only child
To just another dossier filed

The author's comments:
Though I do not personally have someone fighting a war, my heart goes out to those who do. I am ashamed at the lack of respect some have for our brothers and sisters in uniform, and I hope this changes real soon. We need it now more than ever.
