The days, one by one, all waste away
Every moment, precious and dear
Waiting for it all to disappear one day

Sitting here, nothing left to say
Speaking words I struggle to hear
The days, one by one, all waste away

The look on your face, full of dismay
My eyes, soft and silent, full of plain fear
Waiting for it all to disappear one day

The events unfold between us, quite a display
Slowly escapes one single, sad tear
The days, one by one, all waste away

Who knows if I will ever again be okay
Want for so long to feel nothing but cheer
Waiting for it all to disappear one day

I will sit here forever, let come what may
Who knows in this shadow of darkness and gray
The days, one by one, all waste away
Waiting for it all to disappear one day

The author's comments:
This piece actually was inspired by a fight with my boyfriend that nearly ended our relationship. When he walked out the door, I felt completely helpless. Even after things had been patched up, I couldn't get past how terrified I was.
