   do you like me?

I say,

with my crooked smile

half-hidden

by my crooked hair

I say,

We're all alike

inside,

I see you everywhere

and then the bell rings

and the day is over

so

I'll talk to you later,

friend, oh

and here's my number,

call after six.

over coffee I

ask again,

do you like me?

How'll I fit?

more sugar?

then you smile back

and it's not crooked

so I don't

return it,

I look serious and

brooding,

so that you'll think

I'm serious and brooding,

and maybe you'll write that

in your article,

"I like her. She is

serious and brooding."

I can see it now.
