The Smile On My Face Hurts This work has been published in the Teen Ink monthly print magazine.

   I.

My smile is saving me

I sway on the platform

This is where I smile

And their eyes google at me

Their lips curse me

And the skin on my face hurts

The smile lingers on

II.

My smile is saving me - smile at

The rainbow - at the cotton candy

At the dolls, but

Oh the pain

My face is sore

My smile is sore

Oh how the smile on my face hurts

III.

My smile is saving me

Two-faced

They see the smile I don't know of

They feel its airiness

I wonder how it feels

A painless smile

Calm and truthful

I take the pills

That help for the smile on my face

The smile that hurts

IV.

My smile is saving me

and the people

accept me

teach me

But the smile on my face hurts

V.

My smile is killing me
