Hush little baby,
Don't say word.
Forget what mommy said,
Forget what you heard.

Hush little baby,
Don't you cry.
They won't fight for long,
Wipe the tears from your eye.

Hush little baby,
Please don't hide.
Mommy will be just fine,
When Daddy's fist and her face collide.

Hush little baby,
Everything's alright.
It's all over,
Daddy's leaving tonight.

The author's comments:
I was inspired to write this poem while watching a documentary on child abuse. I was touched and hurt hearing these stories of children younger than 10 years being hurt verbally and physically for no reason. When writing this poem, I put myself in these childrens' shoes and felt their pain.
