   Walking together,

Bodies shrunken and hunched, their faces show no emotion.

Fast for her age,

She is ahead;

A few paces in front of her other.

With clashing, rose-colored coat and knit hat,

She drags behind her the small

Shopping cart, that screeches

On the pavement.

Dressed in blue wool and gray cap,

He lags behind, only hoping to catch up.

Slowly but surely he lifts his hand to his mouth

And lets out a hacking cough.

Years pass and she is seen,

Making a solo run.

The cart full of groceries,

And her other,

Not forgotten.
