Remember MAG

By Anonymous

   When I'm sitting on the edge of my thoughts,

My toes tend to curl,

And I remember.

There were endless days,

Lost in an innocent world;

Countless hours filled with mud pies on hot summer days

While wearing purple-popsicle lips;

Peapod parties on the soothing coolness of a green linoleum floor,

All tiny specks of importance to a wonder-filled, freckle-faced girl.

Realizing now ...

I wish I were small again,

My worries too;

If only to save the helpless earthworms on the driveway

From drowning in shadowy puddles after a storm.

In the rippled water I see reflections of a child, mature,

Her own emotions causing rain to sprinkle her thoughts.

She remembers; she realizes.

I remember; I realize.

It was then I never ventured too close to the edge,

And it is now that I am afraid of falling off,

Always questioning my possession of strength to climb to the top,

Once more,

Many, many times.
