A Phone Call This work has been published in the Teen Ink monthly print magazine.

Quivering words touch me from miles away

Foreign, not the voice

But the trembling tone with which she speaks

A familiar icon of strength and wisdom

Turns to me for both

An icy chill enters my body as I recall the pain

For I knew it, too

But now it's worse

The cold, malevolent snake worms its way through me

And I feel more hurt than ever before

Everything she knew

Lost on one cold February birthday

A birthday gift

Maybe.

Fate will find its way into her path

She will cry no more
