Love, Lies, and Goodbyes
When you told me "Let's be friends"
You made a promise to be true,
You might not have said it in words,
But both girls and boys know that's what friends do.
Maybe I sort of loved you,
But I just wanted to be friends.
So when you unknowingly stumbled upon the truth
I had to lie, hide, and pretend.
I tried not to study you in class
And walked faster in the halls
Although we were headed in the same direction
Too much attention would show you once and for all.
People knew I liked you though
They knew from my smile and my eyes,
I only told the truth to my closest friends
For you, affection disguised.
And I admit I liked you then,
'Til I found you were immature
So I stayed with you as a friend
but I didn't love you anymore.
But then you found out all too late.
I denied affection once again,
but at that point you'd thought I lied
so with your anger I had to fend.
And then one day, you told the crowd,
that I loved you, was proclaimed.
I was teased, emotions tossed around.
My last one was ashamed.
See, you stabbed me in the back,
and real friends do not betray
So understand my anger,
for you have caused me pain.
Do you want to know the worst part?
You saw the pain shoot through my eyes
Although from those, no tears could part
You never once apologized.
You might still pass me in the halls,
You could still joke or smile,
but I can't face being friends again.
At least, not for a while.
Everybody else believes you're nice,
they see you as a friend.
Though I'm forced to disagree, you see,
I forgive you, in the end.
