In My Backyard
I saw the moon last night
It loomed over me
Pale…icy…impassive
She watched me
Deep within her dark palace
And I watched her
She enthralled me
Erased the pain I felt
As
My soul was destroyed
My heart burnt from the inside out
She helped me…
Like a beautiful, polished drug
Until morning rolled in
And she deserted me
From this I’ve derived one thing
That no drugs…beauty…or new offers of love
Can erase what happened that night
Or replace all I lost:
Me
The man
And the moon
