if only i could
stand in the forest
 of sacred days past
 look into my sky
 her depth in the night
 shattered by leaflets
 that scatter her beauty
 dimmed slightly more
by the glow of his mask

 run through the trees
 veer off the trail
 halt at the shore
 of the last hidden pond
 on my winter-fed creek
 that runs as a road
 to the loving embrace
 of his welcoming arms

 peer up at the black
 now free of the trees
 my creek makes a track
 to a moon brighter still
than my tears in pure sunlight
its the love in his face
 that transcends the stars
or the sun were it day

run to him fly to him
 sprint through the wood
 soar to his grace
 if only i could
 and when you reach him
 kiss him for me
 tell him i love him
and to come back to me
