Dance of Youth

Silently, she dances,

wisps of hair flying behind her,

the wind softly blowing her pure white skirt.

Her bare feet lightly tread the grass,

as she bounces across the field.

Just a girl,

of merely five years.

If you look closely,

her wings from heaven

still peek out.

Before her,

a butterfly flutters,

and the girl giggles,

as it flies around her face,

finally landing on her outstretched hand.

As she leans in,

to take in the animal’s beauty,

she notices something.

A slight, barely noticeable,

tilt of the head,

as the creature seems to stare at her,

directly into her eyes.

Then suddenly, without warning,

it takes off.

Toward the dark forest it flies,

and without a second though,

she runs after it,

into the dark unknown.
