Nice Dream

By , Reynolds, IL
After our usual talk of troubles and imaginings,
I give her a more
serious look
"I had a dream last night,"
I say casually
she smiles at me,
something i wish i could see
more often
"Really?" she says curiously
and I nod to her
and take a deep, shaky breath
"I dreamt that you rolled up your sleeves," I say,
fighting tears
as I watch her smile fade
and she looks a bit less interested
"What did you see?" she asks
oh so quietly
I swallow hard
"I saw skin," I say
"There were no scars
or scratches,
no scabs or wounds,
no pain,
and no cuts," I tell my best freind
and she just looks at me
until
finally
she turns away from me
once more
"I bet it was a nice dream," she says quietly
and i turn away to hide my tears
and i whisper
"Yeah.
It was."
