Living on the Edge
Late, Dark, and Dangerous
but excitement far exceeds fear.
Heart pounding in my ears
loud and fast so that it
drowns out the sirens and the dogs barking
in the background of New York City.
Sweat dripping off my nose,
heavy breathing,
I feel the adrenaline pumping through my veins.
I was running from something,
but turned off into a dark ally.
I take in my surroundings as I catch my breath,
I think we lost them.
I look over my shoulder at Jess,
who is bent over with her hands on her knees
catching her breath.
The fear subsides, but the thrill of the chase remains.
A smile spreads across her face
and we both burst out laughing.
The things we do to feel alive.
