The Carnation and The Rose
Say you’ll never let me go,
My black nocturnal lover
Two more sweet smelling roses and I suppose I should have you
The reflection of the moon on your beautiful face,
The shining of the stars on my hopeful expression.
I find myself pleasantly asking God to please turn off the lights,
For the melancholy truth that swims in your muddy eyes are beginning to swoon me
Say you’ll let me go,
My black nocturnal lover
Three more sweet smelling roses and I suppose I should love you.
How many times can I dance at the possibility of our lust?
And how long will I keep these promises that I should?
Oh, what beautiful lips you have darling,
An excellent thing to linger on, I’m sure of it.
But for tonight,
My black nocturnal lover
I suppose I should not surrender my virtue to you
For I have just realized I cannot, could not, and will not
Love you.
However, I must announce that an equally astounding event has transpired,
As you make your way to me on this delicate night,
I spot in your hands
Dead carnations.
