His somber face was etched with deep fine lines
As he looked into her empty blue eyes
Holding her soft delicate hand in his
Lost for words, studying her intently
Replaying in his mind the vows that they each took upon
In sickness and in health they solemnly swore
Recalling events that altered his life
Whispering a prayer rapidly under his breath
Recollecting memories like souvenirs
Selfishly wanting to have her to himself
Reminiscing the times they divulged in stories
Adoring her beauty and elegance as she laid there
Remembering elaborated aspects of their life
Her blue eyes had that last twinkle in them
as she closed them for the last time
Reminding himself as he closed his heavy eyes
that love is something he could never describe
