Missa Defunctorum
And it will come to you as a sudden realization.
Then the air will clear and shock and awe sinks in;
abandonded picnic tables and tangled power lines,
with tree trunks like rotting teeth
and ample time to still stay alive.
Our judgement was obscured,
but our perception was intact.
The day I found out, I was paralyzed with conflicting emotions.
And that headstone still stands, even when I'm not there,
as wicked and unforgiving as any clock.
Now my eyes are blurred and I can't remember my days.
This flight was doomed from the beginning.
