Under the Crystal Sky
Where painted masks and painted faces thrive
Darkness in light
Light in the stars and in the eyes
Blood red
Treachery is bled
And yet this power is gilded
There is music and song and dress and glitter
We sparkle and we shine
We move towards you in the night
With water in the alleyway
And water at your step
A Venetian Ball that tantalizes and kills
A Celebration that seduces and thrills
We are color and music and light
We are betrayal and darkness and fright
We are the underbelly of Heaven and the Head of Hell
We are the Creatures of the Underworld
Under the Crystal Sky
Our moving bodies are preserved
We stare through feathers and wonder
Under the Crystal Sky lies the city of water
Where are all drowned in the liquor of life and the dreams of sunlight

This piece was inspired by a postcard I found in an antique store. The postcard portrayed a Funeral in Venice and people in costume could be seen dancing in the windows at the back of the Church where the Funeral was being held.
