Drift Away
The waves keep rushing in,
Over and over again.
I cannot stand up.
I’ve been beaten into the sea floor.
Wave after wave,
No breaks to breathe,
Smothered by water,
Sea salt setting fire to my soul.
Failure and more failure,
I’ve never regained myself.
Each tear adding more water—
More water to try to gargle.
I’ve lost myself,
Nowhere to turn—nowhere to go,
No confidence and no pride,
I’m no longer who I am.
Perhaps the best thing is to let go.
Let go, release, and be swallowed.
To allow the tides to wash today,
And watch me slowly drift away.
