I'm sorry I didn't come along sooner,
But she did, that's for sure;
And the feelings you developed for her
Are genuine, strong, and pure.

Maybe something could have tied us,
To never come apart;
Except my world's been far from yours
I've never longed for your heart.

The one chance we get to run across the fields
And hold each other tight
Is shattered by our love for others.
To our love we say good-night.

It's inspired by a dilemma I had between choosing the guy I met and might never see again, for the guy I want and I know will be there, if not necessarily for me.
