My Mind

In my mind resides a world
That would scare most mortal men
It is a world of horror, a world of delight
It is a world of laughter, a world of tears
It is a world of nonsense and it is mine

There are bats hanging from the ceiling
There are panda’s walking in circles
There are penguins with pebbles

There are animated mermaids
And true love’s first kiss
There are monsters in closets who throw cheerios
At little pigtailed girls who should be asleep
There are girls in white dresses with blue satin sashes
And Anastasia’s courtiers dance across the ballroom of my memories

There are knights in shining armor
And female knights who wield just as much power
There are Saints who do what they can to make the world a better place
There are masked magicians who float on air
There are Mages who turn trees into men

There are Crack Fairies, Acid Trips, and Ferris Wheels.
There are comedians and rock stars; there are hippies and puppeteers,
Muppets dancing and singing and fighting because it’s funny

80’s music is always playing
With a little pinch of jazz
Show tunes
And some hip hop blues
Colorful crystal bubbles are bouncing everywhere
Jareth is blowing them into the air, seated from his throne
In the castle in the sky
And deep inside, right over there, is a secret garden with an open gate
Inside are Four Little Women and Five Little Peppers
And one brown eyed little girl, dancing around in a circle,
With her arms out stretched ready to give the world a hug

Inside my mind, I think, would scare everyone but me,
Inside there is something for everyone
From princesses to toy trucks to fishnet stockings and guitar strings
Outside, this girl is laughing as her inner child dances
Knowing that her mind would terrify another living being.
