AfterJudith Hemshemeyer

That summer
after you took her life
tilting your10-ton steel into her lane
without even asking
anyone who loved her
ifthey could bear it

I found myself swimming
in my unwashed hair
andwaiting for Chris to
come and hold my shoulders when Icried

confused
unable to understand
why I wasn't sleeping
in thisnight
terror.
