“In all things it is better to hope than to despair”

He is a good friend
He will be there until the end
He’s been my friend since we were five
He used to have a hamster named Chive
He always used to be short
He will never step foot in court
I haven’t seen him in a while
But when I do it will make me smile
No longer do we go to the same school
All we say is “That’s just not cool”
We were in the same class everyday
But now he is so far away
Next year he will go to Burke
When we win I will smirk
At recess we used to be monkeys
Now we just sit and talk under trees
The last day at Crestridge was sad
Looking back at all the good times we had
We know each other so well
On these memories we dwell
He was like my second brother
He will always be like no other

My friend Alden and I have been in the same class since we were in kindergarten. Sixth grade was our last year together because we now go to different schools. When we were asked to write poems in English class he came to my mind and this is what I wrote.
