you are a mysterious creature
who comes in many forms
you take the shape
of a worksheet
of an essay
or of a book.

you are a mysterious creature
who comes in many sizes
you take ten minutes,
twenty minutes,
thirty minutes,
an hour,
or two hours to finish.

You are a mysterious creature
who comes in many ranges.
One day you are easy,
and the next,
you are oh so hard.

You are a mysterious creature
who stresses me out each night
I have so much of you to do.
I spend hours of my short weeks completing you
And what do I get for my hours of toiling?
A simple check mark
A simple "good work"
A simple "you did it"
And sometimes nothing at all.

Oh homework,
I wish you would go to bed
right now.
