Papa
You took in two daughters
Without thinking twice
Then adopted a son
You weren’t just being nice
Many years and five grandkids later
You had become our Papa
Flying was your paradise
Being close to God in heaven
This I could understand
Even at the age of eleven
One night we got the call
(something I will never forget)
Racing to the hospital at 9 p.m.
Awaiting the horror you had met
Life as we knew it
Forever would change
Three strokes would cause your death
Three lessons for me to learn
Life, death, love all intertwined
A sorrowful pit in my stomach churned
You held on for two more years
Suffering and knowing your fate
One night at 2 a.m.
Heaven could no longer wait
August 15, 2007
You were given final clearance to land
We miss you so much but
We know you’re in God’s hands
