i held god

i held God in my arms tonight,
sang to her ‘till she fell asleep.
who lives in the sack of skin i
shed tonight, who dredged it from
the streets? who walks through the fog in
my feet tonight, who grinds them
into meat? if i let God cry
in my arms tonight, if i nurse her
in my sheets,
will i finally fall asleep tonight,
will my flesh be mine to keep?
