Footsteps are coming toward my room.
My eyes close.
They stop in front of my bedroom door.
My fists clench.
The doorknob turns slowly to the left.
My body tenses.
The door creaks and opens a tiny crack.
My heart pounds.
The door closes softly. Click.
My eyes fly open
My fists unclench
My body relaxes
My heart slows down
Silence.
Not tonight.
