Yearning for Youth

My youth will forever be my peak and prime

The long nights where I battled bedtime

The days that were the best and carefree

Playing outside when the clock struck three

Always residing and living in my heart

I wish I could just hit restart

I yearn for the old friends and the endless fun

Enjoying the outdoors till the absence of the sun

The days where everything seemed right

Not knowing everyone fights

Free from the evil thought of death

Not knowing when it could be someone's last breath

I truly miss and hope for those times of innocence and peace

But now I realize that part of life was simply on lease

I wish I had enjoyed those moments while they lasted

These times of stress, oh they had not been forecasted

But now I understand the importance of life

And how it can be cut instantly like a sharp, bleeding knife

This is a piece of work created for my English 10 Honors Class. It is from our flashback poem lesson.
