Smell of Books
Often,
After a long day,
I open a book
And sniff gently.
Ah yes,
I am at home.
Those,
With the lemony, crisp scent
Of a new book,
Are a breath of fresh air.
Others,
With the moldy, subtle smell
Of an old book,
Are layers of history.
Reading an old book,
I impart
Yet another
Layer of scent.
Reading a new one,
I give
The very first human scent
That it will ever know.
