The Battle Outside Our Home
A three year-old girl lay terrified in her bed,
Startled by the war outside her home.
Explosions of thunder roar through her bedroom.
Her heart jumped through her chest,
And her eyes grew a thousand times larger.
Lightning filled the apartment like bombs hitting their targets.
Rain pellets were gun shots fired at an opponent.
Laying as still as possible in the midst of battle,
Her mommy came to the rescue with her favorite bedtime story.
