Rays of red, orange, and yellow
Spilled over the horizon that morning.
No different than any other day.
People following normal patterns of habit

Creaking,
The sound of a door opening.
Flakes of rust fly off the hinges.
Protesting their abrupt awakening

The sunlight blinding
As you step out into the light
Will you make a great speech?
Change the ways of the past?

Shots rain down upon the beautiful day
bang
Bang
BANG
Your body falls from grace
Tainting the ground below with crimson red

You will not make a great speech
You will not further your work
You were a great leader
You will make a statement
Become a beacon for those with lost hope

You will return to the promise land
And wait there for the day
Of freedom
Righteousness
The commonwealth of mankind
Standing on the mountain top
Leading us into the future
