I Am From
I am from the sandbox, homemade by dad
From the picnic table and the soaring tree swing
I am from enormous oak trees and a small rickety bridge
I am from a dogwood tree
That soon became a secret fort
I am from Barbie dolls and bright colored clothes
From ‘take a chill pill’ and ‘do your best work’
I am from an annoying big brother and pesky little cousins
From Vacation Bible School and Veggie Tales
I am from Kara and Kristin
From late nights and juicy secrets we will never tell
I am from grandpa’s war stories and dad’s goodnight hugs
From hardwood courts and running in the rain
And the tremendous effort that I gave
I am from laughing and crying
And all emotions in between
From holidays and birthdays
And living out my dreams
I am from a loving mother and father
And everything that makes me smile
I am from… an amazing family
