The Girl In The Mirror
She stands in front of the mirror
Hating all reflections
Her pain is streaked down her cheeks.
She only sees the imperfections
Her hands are shaking
And her knees are weak.
She calls herself ugly
Someone no one would love.
So she searches the cabinet
And finds what she wants.
The pills spill over the bathroom as
Her trembling hands count out 26
Little white pills
And she swallows them.
With nothing holding her back
She slides down and rests her head
Against the wall.
Her pain is gone now.
And she is happy.
But then she realizes that she
Doesn’t want to die.
But it's too late now, isn’t it?
So she stands up and looks again in the mirror.
She sees a nightmare in the happening.
Before, she only saw the naïve, jealous girl
Now she is a monster.
So she rises on fist
Using all her power and strength
to get it above her head
she throws her rage at the glass
as it shatters she goes numb.
But only enough to forget for a moment
She opens her eyes to see
Crimson all around her
The monster smiles at the done deed
But then she realizes
That she can never take it back.
The monster has overcome her
Craving harsh consequences.
*****
Laced with sterile tubes
And needles, she wakes up.
In a hospital.
Dressed in a blue nightgown
She looks to her left to see
A boy
The boy that knew how gorgeous and amazing she was.
The boy who loved her more than anything else in the world.
The boy who saved her from the girl in the mirror, the reflection that
Didn’t believe, didn’t love
That girl that was overcome.
And now she’s gone, forever shattered and forgotten.
