A pounding echo multiplied
20,000 times.
My soul bouncing off cement and back,
Into my ears, my lines.
I feel the spotlight burn me
And my redd'ning face won't lie.
Red with streaks upon my face;
Success gleams in my eyes.
The picture fades behind my lids.
Which stir with breaking dawn.
A warm caress cuts off the film:
The light I wish would just be gone.
“Let me stay asleep!” I hiss
As if waking were obscene.
I can't appreciate all this,
I'd rather live in dreams.
