Leaving the Woods
Like water brushing rock and stone
These years have done us beat and worn.
And as I face the new unknown
I wonder why there’s feel for mourn.
Like all the faces come and gone
These years have seen us to and fro.
The flow of time feels like the dawn,
The loss of such – as cold as snow.
Like falling rain and thunderclouds
These years have given love and hate.
And as I look upon the crowds
Each breath is drawn with greater weight.
A when and where I never knew
Would grow so close to heart and soul.
And how an end does so imbue
Both strength and grief deserves extol.
I wonder if I’ve no regrets.
I wonder if wasted all.
And scared to know what change begets.
And scared to brush off my appall.
Too much to simply put in words
Or show through simple gesture now.
And even though my doubt still girds
I realize what my hopes allow.
We all exchange our last goodbyes.
We all take to mind their faces.
It only ends with quiet sighs
And heartfelt, warm embraces.
But then a whole new chapter starts.
No fix on what’s been crossed.
Our turn to find new roles and parts.
Live by the words of Frost:
“The woods are lovely dark and deep,
But I have promises to keep
And miles to go before I sleep,
And miles to go before I sleep…”
