Linguistically speaking, you are quite skilled
metaphorically speaking, I was quite the kill
Pretty baby, did you hear the news?
You're burning bridges faster than you can build
I apologize in advance for my presence
You'll just have to excuse me while I figure out what this mess is

We're about two steps away from the edge of the cliff
I'm pushing us slowly as close as we can get
It isn't good enough unless you're falling first
You won't be good enough even if you fall head first
Oh darling, didn't you ever learn?
If you play with fire, you're sure to get burned

I find it pretty comical, the way these tables turned
I rushed to the top, 'till you were far enough behind me
But when I looked back down I couldn't see a thing
The only thing I could do was hear your little laugh
Will I ever learn how to laugh with you?

I'm growing bored, you know, romancing can be tiring
It doesn't mean a thing when you say that I'm a beauty
Pretty darling, do you know what they say?
We won't last forever if we both try to win the race
