1st Verse
It was 6 a.m. when I got the dreadful call
Such a shame to see him fall
Johnny was a good man Johnny wasn’t bad
But now at least he’ll be in heaven with his dad

2nd Verse
Back in the day we had some good times
Me and my best friend Johnny Himes
We were in 8th grade when we got in trouble
He got really mad and started a rumble

Refrain
I swear I’m not sad, I swear I won’t cry
But it’s hard to see your best friend die
He left behind Taylor his beautiful wife
When he got stabbed in the back with a knife

3rd Verse
The old church was the place of the wake
The funeral took place at his home by the lake
On Johnny’s coffin lay an old crumpled leaf
While Taylor sits all alone in deep grief

Refrain
I swear I’m not sad, I swear I won’t cry
But it’s hard to see your best friend die
He left behind Taylor his beautiful wife
When he got stabbed in the back with a knife

Bridge
I try to forget but I don’t know if I can
He was twenty- three but still a good man
I think of him from time to time
Johnny Himes an old friend of mine

Refrain (2x)
I swear I’m not sad, I swear I won’t cry
But it’s hard to see your best friend die
He left behind Taylor his beautiful wife
When he got stabbed in the back with a knife
