Black Hole of Earth

Down by the sea
The ocean’s way
The blackness, pulling you closer
The depths of darkness of the water
Always reaching out for you
Pulling, pulling, you in
The waves enticing, luring, inviting
The sand awaits your leave
The footprints, sinking in
In through the ground
Leading you farther and farther within
But then, no footprints lead you back out
And that is the power
The force
The might
Of the sea
Ocean
Water
Of the black depths beneath within
The black hole of the earth
Swirling in its beauty
Swallowing with its menace

But do not be mistaken
There is beauty too
With the lightness
Of blue
The empty space
Underneath
But not so empty
Filled with life
Leaving and taking and giving

The creatures
Down by the sea
Down by the ocean
Down by the water
Are strange
Living in their own worlds
Where only they can understand
What it is like
In the world of the ocean
Earth’s black hole
Of beauty
And of menace

The sand peppered with rocks
Pebbles, stones, rocks
Delicately formed shells
Adding to the beauty of the scene
The roles are played by the creatures
Soaring birds and flapping swimmers
The water leaps in
Covering everything in sight
Bathing the rocks
Drowning the sand
Next step
Pushing back
Farther and farther
Back into the cozy nestled nook
Of blackness, depth, and water
The ground lay drenched
While water lay mocking
But that is the way it works
Gears shifting
And changing
And altering
While the roles of the beach
Spin and turn

Amazing, the ocean is
As man tries to contain power
But that never works
The seas are too powerful
For any one to overcome
And the gods will show you how

The rumbling, gurgling, tumbling
Water lolling back
Back and forth, back and forth
Poseidon shakes the earth
The moody god of the seas
As anger fills the blackness
Water clashing and thrashing
Around and about
Then the spirit calms
And the blue and beauty returns
Leaving the world peaceful again
As if it never occurred

Land mountainous
Surrounding the ocean
Sky reflected
Blue as might
Down by the sea
As the ocean
Swallows in menace
And swirls in beauty

The beaches of Greece inspired me to write this poem, and everything I wrote in the poem related to the soft sand and swirling waters of Greece.
